PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Forestry Commission has issued a burn ban for George County.
Seventy-four counties in Mississippi are under a burn ban after an unusually dry October. Pearl River and George counties are the only counties in South Mississippi under a ban.
Jefferson, Wilkinson, Forrest, Perry, Stone, Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson counties are the only counties in the state where a ban is not in place.
Anyone found guilty of knowingly violating a burn ban could face a fine of up to $500.
Even if you live in an area not under a burn ban, you should still be very careful burning in these dry conditions.
You can always check the Mississippi Forestry Commission 's list of burn bans to find out if your area is under a burn ban.
