OLA taking aim on fifth consecutive Class I State Volleyball Championship

BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Mike Meyers has guided OLA to ten State Champions.  OLA has posted a 31-7 record this season.

Beginning 6 p.m. Friday on the campus of Belhaven, OLA takes aim on a fifth straight Class I state title, opening the semifinals facing St. Joe Madison.

"We're lucky to have girls who buy into this and they love OLA volleyball, "said Meyers.  "They work hard as the have too, to be good as they need to be."

Alia Tayara said, "We all over the sport.  We all love each other.  It's a real good community and the fact that we get along and communicate well together really makes us a better team."

Junior standout Emma Funk has an amazing 700 kills and 85 blocks this season.

"I think our team is very disciplined and coach Mike does a really good job of making sure that we have good chemistry, "said Funk.

Hannah Guest added, "I think the passion that our team has is just really what drives us and we never give up a fight."

OLA is a dominating volleyball team that combines experience, youth and a winning tradition to slip past the opposition.

Resurrection also cracked the Class I state semifinals at Belhaven.  The Lady Eagles will meet St. Andrews 4 p.m. Friday.

Vancleave opens the Region II state volleyball semifinals at Millsaps Friday at 3:00 p.m.  The Lady Bulldogs battle Lewisburg.

Hancock will attempt to crack the Region III state finals for the fourth consecutive year.  The Lady Hawks have lost all three final games, but will try to get over the hump this weekend.  Hancock faces Tupelo 7 p.m. Friday at Millsaps.
