Abbi Henderson helped the Pearl River Lady Wildcats defeat East Central 1-0 with a goal from 30 yards out to propel PRCC (9-6) into the MACJC women's soccer semifinals.
It was a sudden death goal at 2:02 of the first overtime. Lacey Polderman drove the ball up the middle. After she momentarily got her feet tangled, Polderman passed the ball back to Henderson and she lifted the shot that sailed into the East Central net for a thrilling end to a tough hard played soccer game.
Henderson said, "We came out for the overtime with a lot of heart. It was just a routine shot, and the ball went in." She led PRCC with six shots on goal.
The Lady Wildcats advance to play Jones Saturday in Perkinston in the semifinals. Jones swept PRCC 2-1 on September 16 in Poplarville and 4-2 last week at Ellisville.
Pearl River head coach Jack Byrd said, "There are other teams I'd rather have a third shot at. We always say that it usually always comes down to us."
East Central closed out the season with 12 wins and 4 losses.
