SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - There is now only one swimming warning in place for a section of the Mississippi Sound.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality lifted its water contact advisories Tuesday afternoon for Gulfport Harbor Beach from 20th Avenue east to Thornton Avenue and for Gulfport East Beach from Tegarden Road east to Anniston Avenue.
MDEQ issued a new advisory for Shearwater Beach in Ocean Springs from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley Place.
MDEQ warns if you swim in the section of the Mississippi Sound now under a water contact advisory, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.
MDEQ will lift this advisory when water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
