Residents Learn How To Police

There's a continued push to get the community and the Gulfport Police Department working together to keep that city safe. The Citizen Police Academy will have its first class Monday, May 14th at the Gulfport Police Department.

It's an opportunity for residents to exchange ideas with law enforcement officers and see first hand how the department works from the inside.

"We go into law enforcement history, we go into our organizational structure, and what's most important is that we will go into our philosophy which is that we work under community oriented policing and that demands that we have a very close relationship with the public," Gulfport Police Investigator Robert Johnson said.

The classes are free and open to anyone. They'll be held on Monday nights from 6 p.m. to 9p.m. for the next 13 weeks. For more information about the Academy call Dianne Broome at 831-0707.
