Southern Miss Sweeps UAB

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) _ Southern Mississippi scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Sunday to beat Alabama-Birmingham 8-6 and sweep the three-game Conference USA series. USM (25-30, 11-16 CUSA) has already earned a spot in the conference tournament. UAB ended the season 25-29 overall, 6-20 in the conference. Dusty Haley and Clint Stoy each had a pair of hits to lead the Golden Eagles, who had nine hits on the day. Stoy also scored twice. Charlie Rogers (3-3) was the fourth pitcher used by Southern Miss and threw the final three innings. UAB used five pitchers, with Blake Allen (4-6) taking the loss. Southern Miss jumped out 2-0 in the opening inning, then fell behind when UAB scored four in the top of the fourth. The three-hour contest included five errors _ three by USM and two by UAB.
