Police Officer Resigns

A Long Beach police officer has resigned, and an internal investigation is now underway within that department... over allegations that the former officer harrassed a man and his step-children. That's the word from chief of police Tom Bishop. He tells WLOX news that officer Rusty Shoultz has resigned, and two other officers are being questioned in connection with an incident that happened last month.

A Long Beach resident filed a complaint saying the officers detained him and three children when they were seen walking into the woods with a weapon. Officers first thought it was a machine gun, but it turned out to be two pellet guns. The complaint says the man and the children were roughed up and threatened. Bishop says he has offered to let a city "DARE" officer speak to the children to calm any fears they may have. Shoultz could not be reached for comment.
