GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A Sumrall, MS man was arrested after allegedly robbing the Exxon gas station on 30th Ave. in Gulfport early Thursday morning.
Gulfport Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joshua Bromen said officers responded to the robbery complaint around 2:10 a.m.
The victim told investigators a man wearing a mask walked into the store and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. Bromen said the suspect left the scene in a vehicle after getting cash from inside the store.
A description of the vehicle and suspect was sent to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Bromen said Long Beach police found the getaway vehicle, and Melvin Fennell was arrested shortly after.
While investigators were questioning Fennell about the crime, he reportedly gave false information about his identity.
Fennell, 26, is charged with armed robbery, tampering with evidence, and false information. He is being held at the Harrison County jail on a $260,677 bond.
