SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - This country was founded when our forefathers declared independence and freedom. Freedom from outside rule and a declaration that the people would elect their own representatives to govern this nation.
Two hundred forty years later, we now face a presidential election in which a lot of people are not happy with who is running for office and may be thinking about sitting out this election. But think about this first. Before the 15th amendment to the Constitution, voting was denied to some based on race. It wasn't until 1920, that women finally won the right to vote nationally with the 19th Amendment.
None of this came easy. Wars were fought. People died. People were jailed. And many court battles now make if pretty easy for us to vote.
We encourage you not to sit this one out. We have fought to hard and come too far in the past 240 years for you not to exercise your right to vote. That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
