ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - St. Martin and Biloxi are getting ready for Friday's Showdown at Biloxi Stadium. Both teams, along with George County, Gulfport, and D'Iberville are tied for first-place in the Region 4-6A standings with 2 wins and 1 loss.
The Indians defense must find some way to slow down one of the nation's top receivers.
Kalem Reddix is a game changer, a game breaker.
The 6-foot-1, 205 pound senior does it with speed, capable of exploding past defenders, leaving them in his dust.
He's not Superman, but than again...Reddix can jump sky high, leaping into the clouds, coming down to earth with the football.
After 8 games Reddix has pulled down 63 passes for 1,362 yards and 18 touchdowns. In the latest MaxPreps statistics, Reddix ranks second in the nation. Stats are great, but Kalem has one main goal.
"Honestly I just want to win, "said Reddix. "Yes sir. I want to get to the playoffs this year. want to go somewhere. I don't want to end up like the last few years and fall short at the end."
St. Martin quarterback Wayne Overman ranks 27th in the national passing statistics with 2,242 yards, 26 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. More than half of those yards and 18 of those touchdowns belong to Reddix.
Overman said, "If I go out and scramble, he knows where to go. He's really good at it. By far, Kalem has stepped up and has been the guy for us."
St. Martin head coach Eddie Wayne Whitehead knows he has a blue chip receiver in Reddix.
"At any time he can take it to the house, "stated Whitehead. "Whether it's a short pass or a long one. He's take it upon himself to get yards after contact."
Kalem Reddix is no longer committed to Southern Miss. He's still considering the Golden Eagles along with Miami, Indiana and Florida State.
Besides Reddix, East Central running back Tony Brown is the Number one rusher in the nation, having blasted his way for 2,255 yards and 24 touchdowns.
George County quarterback LaRaymond Spivery ranks 18th in the nation with 2,370 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. The Rebels travel to Ocean Springs on Friday.
St. Stanislaus quarterback Myles Brennan ranks Number 41. He has thrown for 2,158 yards, 26 touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception.
Brennan, the All-Time leading passer in Mississippi, would have more passing yards and touchdowns, but doesn't play an entire game in most cases. In last week's 56-14 win over Bay High, Brennan sat out the entire second half. He tossed five touchdowns in the first half. The Rockachaws battle East Central in a big Region 8-4A game in the Bay Friday night.
