JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Courtrooms are usually places of high drama dealing with topics that are not very pleasant. That was not the case today in Jackson County Chancery Court.
A mass adoption ceremony was held, sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Eleven children were adopted into loving, forever homes.
The children ranged in age from two years to 15. Many of them have been in foster care for months, if not years.
Each adoption case was presided over by Judge Jaye Bradley. She said days like these are some of the best days she ever spends on the bench.
Meanwhile, tears were flowing and smiles were abundant, on both the part of the parents and the children.
Several of the parents said this was a special calling from God that lead them through the adoption process. All said they want the very best for their new children.
After the last of the cases was heard, the newly formed families were treated to refreshments and gifts for the children. Then, each child released a balloon into the air on the steps of the courthouse.
Doug Walker covered the touching ceremony. Watch for the story tonight on WLOX News Now and on WLOX.com.
