Friday Night Football Showdown: Week 8 Preview

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

In a Region 4-5A Friday Night Football Showdown, Hattiesburg (5-2) travels to Picayune (6-0). Both teams are 2-0 in Region play.

The Tigers feature a balanced attack led by quarterback Julian Conner.  He has passed for 1,751 yards with 20 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions.  Conner has added 302 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.

Jordan Murphy is the Tigers top receiver.  After 7 games, he has 36 receptions for 776 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He's picking up 21.6 yards per catch.

The Maroon Tide won't be able to rush the quarterback because Hattiesburg has two solid running backs. Fabian Franklin has piled up 582 yards with nine touchdowns.  He's averaging 7.3 yards per game. Drexlan Allen has 426 yards and three touchdowns.

Picayune loves to run the football.  The Maroon Tide average 356 yards per game with Josh Littles leading the way.  He has 1,165 yards and 14 touchdowns.  Every time he touches the football, Littles is picking up big yards, 8.7 yards per rush.

Stone travels to Gautier in another Region 4-5A Friday Night Football Showdown.  The Tomcats and Gators are 1 and 1 in the Region standings.

Terrion Avery has been the Tomcats workhorse.  The senior running back has 1,123 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns.

The Gators also have a tough hard-nosed running back in Deandre Torrey.  He's averaged 8.6 yards per rush with a total of 713 yards and 13 touchdowns.

St. Stanislaus and Bay High are set to compete in the annual Battle for the Crab Trap.  The Rockachaws have one of the most explosive offensive teams in the state, led by senior quarterback Myles Brennan.  The LSU commit has 1,934 yards passing with 21 touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception.  He can also tuck the ball in and take off.  He's averaging 6.9 yards per carry.

The Tigers defense can't focus on one top receiver, they'll have to contain with three game changing wide outs.  Rockachaws head coach Bill Conides has devised a quick striking passing offense and Brennan has spread the football all over the field.

Corbin Blanchard has 36 receptions for a team leading 617 yards and 9 touchdowns.  Darrin Pittman has a team leading 38 catches for 355 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Tight end Chase Rogers, a Tennessee commit, has 32 receptions for 556 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Bay High under first-year head coach Benji Foreman has two running backs who carry the load for the Tigers.  Jaylen Wilson has rushed for 595 yards and 7 touchdowns, while Vernon Barnes has 574 yards and a team leading 9 touchdowns.
