George County quarterback LaRaymond Spivery is a play maker. If a play breaks down, look out, because the 6-foot, 180 pound senior will use his God-given athletic skills to find a way to pick up positive yards.
That was the case in Friday's 36 to 14 Rebels win over the home standing Gulfport Admirals.
Head coach Matt Caldwell is glad Spivery is calling the plays for his team. He's the WLOX Player of the Week.
Caldwell said, "He sees the field really well. He sees those openings and he can evade the rush and get out of trouble. And while he's getting out of trouble, he's looking down field and finding those open receivers and make really big plays."
Defensive teams have to adjust and somehow find ways to contain the shifty, explosive quarterback. Will he run or throw the football?
Spivery said, "It confuses the defense. I can run or I can throw the ball to my big receivers out there. Thank God for my talents."
In the win over Gulfport, Spivery connected on 30 of 48 pass attempts for 269 yards and two touchdowns. He can count on receivers Tyrese Fryfogle and Dwan Williams to make the catch and pick up additional yards. Spivery also dashed around and through the Admirals defensive unit for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
"He's just blessed with a lot of talent that way, "stated Caldwell. "He's improved so much from the spring in picking out his receivers and delivering the football to them."
After six games Spivery has completed 71 percent of his pass attempts for 2,061 yards, 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He ranks 19th in the latest MaxPreps National Passing Yards Stats.
Spivery and company have posted 1 win and 1 loss in the Region 4-6A standings and will host the 2 and 0 D'Iberville Warriors of head coach Eric Collins Friday night.
