JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - After months of discussion, Jackson County has decided to keep Acadian as the county's ambulance service provider. The board of supervisors voted 3-2 Monday morning to renew its contract with the company.
Acadian has provided ambulance services in Jackson County for more than 16 years.
Earlier this year, county leaders looked into changing services after hearing complaints about Acadian's response time.
In 2014, Acadian answered 11,385 calls countywide and was on time 9,787 times, a rate of 85 percent. The contract between Acadian and the county required the ambulance service to respond on time 80 percent of the time.
In the past, Acadian received a $180,000 a year subsidy from the county, but now that subsidy will be just over $20,000.
