GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - On Saturday, hundreds gathered in Jones Park for the Gulf Coast Mississippi Heart Walk at Jones Park.
Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the walk seeks to raise funds and awareness to save lives from the nations top killers, heart disease and stroke.
Participants and organizers say the event creates an environment that's fun and rewarding for the entire family.
"Public support is just overwhelming. People are so responsive to heart disease they realize it's the number one killer in the United states, stroke is number five, and so we just celebrate life today because life is why," said Gulf Coast Heart Walk Director Kerry Boylan.
Subway was one of the sponsors of the event, allowing participants to eat free food.
