SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality lifted the water contact advisory for Biloxi East Central Beach from St. Peter Street east to Dukate Street Thursday afternoon.
But, MDEQ issued three new advisories. These are for waters off Pass Christian East Beach from Espy Avenue east to Hayden Avenue, Gulfport West Beach from Marie Avenue east to Camp Avenue and Gulfport Central Beach from Alfonso Drive east to Arkansas Avenue.
One water contact advisory issued earlier for Edgewater Beach in Biloxi from DeBuys Road east to Edgewater Avenue remains in effect.
MDEQ warns if you swim in the sections of the Mississippi Sound under water contact advisories, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher
chance of getting sick.
MDEQ will lift the advisories when water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
