MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - When it comes to keeping the city clean, some in Moss point are trying to make sure they keep up their end of the deal.
"Today is our national clean up day. We have it once a year where we go all over the city and pick up paper and clean up," said Moss Point City Alderman Shirley Chambers.
"We're really trying to clean up the whole community with our kids from the school district," said volunteer Wesley Harmon.
Students from Moss Point High and Magnolia Middle School are the ones doing the brunt of the work.
"It's really teaching the kids to give back to their city. We want them to be proud of their city, so we're trying to teach them to take care of their city and all that. When you see trash on the ground, pick it up and don't throw trash on the ground," said Harmon.
The students said they don't mind working on a Saturday morning because they know they're making a difference.
"I'm just helping out and doing things. I could be at home playing the game, but I decided to take my time and come out here and help Moss Point," said Tyreese Green.
Chambers hopes the spirit of caring for your community extends far beyond just today.
"I think that if people would follow up on this clean up day and keep this city clean, we wouldn't have as much to do," said Chambers.
