BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Gulfport Admirals and St. Martin Yellow Jackets were involved in a down-to-the-wire Region 4-6A opener.
St. Martin led 10-0. Quarterback Wayne Overman and wide receiver Kalem Reddix hooked up six times, 3 of those receptions went for touchdowns.
The Admirals battled back and pulled out a 42-35 overtime win.
Princeton Fells played a vital role for the Admirals. He came up with two interceptions.
In another Region 4-6A clash... D'Iberville used a solid running game to beat rival Biloxi 37-13. Micah Booker piled up 152 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns.
Warriors head coach Eric Collins got a win in his first confrontation with the Indians.
Sophomore quarterback Michael Kozslowski played well for D'Iberville. He hooked up with running back Ja'Quavis Foster on this 78 yard reception that led to the Warriors second touchdown.
Ocean Springs trailed Hancock for most of the game, but when it got down to the nail biting, Greyhounds head coach Ryan Ross watched his team pull out a 36-35 win over the Hawks with 9-seconds remaining. A two-point conversion won the Region 4-6A game.
In Region 4-5A first-year head coach John Feaster of Stone, the former Pearl River Central defensive coordinator guided the Tomcats past the Blue Devils 49-19.
Stone running backs Terrion Avery and Kentrell Foster excelled all night in finding the PRC end zone.
Foster even came up with the Friday Night Football Showdown Hit of the Night.
Hattiesburg has plenty of talent and the Tigers pulled away from a feisty group of West Harrison Hurricanes 55 to 14. Hurricanes quarterback Dayln Anderson exploded for a 60-yard touchdown that got West Harrison within 20 points in the first half.
The Pascagoula Panthers have won back-to-back games. Following a 36-29 win over George County last week, the Panthers kicked off Region 4-5A play with an impressive 30 to 14 victory against Long Beach. Running backs Javarous Walker and Reginald Hunter combined their talent in running past the Bearcats from the offensive backfield and on special teams.
The Panthers are tied with Picayune, Hattiesburg and Stone atop the Region standings. The Maroon Tide beat Gautier 62-38.
In other games Resurrection traveled to Florida and pulled out a 21-20 win over Escambia Academy. The Eagles stopped Escambia from converting a two-point conversion to post the W.
The Vancleave Bulldogs weren't as lucky. Visiting Northview, Florida defeated Vancleave 25-3.
East Central traveled to Purvis and the Hornets dropped a 34-27 decision.
The Harrison central Red Rebels were involved in a slug fest in Lucedale. The Red Rebels would ring up a thrilling 56-52 overtime win against George County.
St. Andrews handed St. Patrick a 24-0 defeat and Christian Collegiate Academy lost a road game at Tallulah 60-41.
