LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

As tensions heat up between police and communities around the country, one coast city is holding its own gathering to encourage peace.

Dozens of people from the community gathered Wednesday morning on this international day of peace at the Long Beach Police Department. They gathered to pray and encourage police officers for a second year in a row.

Organizer Michele Ponte said this is part of another national effort to support first responders called See You at the Station. It started in Texas after ongoing tensions between law enforcement and their communities.

“Doesn't matter your denomination, just prayer and good vibes for our police officers that they come home safe every day,” said Ponte.

Several companies offered donations for this morning's event, including roses for each of the officers from Lois' Flower Shop.
