Long Beach quarterback Jaiden Evans pulled the trigger that led to win over Moss Point

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Moss Point jumped out to a 13-0 third quarter lead and led Long Beach 19-7 with only 8 minutes remaining in the non-district game.

It didn't look good for the Bearcats.  However, Coach Forrest Williams has instilled a never give-up attitude and despite five turnovers, his Bearcats responded and rallied for a thrilling one point win...20 to 19.

Junior quarterback Jaiden Evans had a big night.  He completed 26 of 43 pass attempts for 346 yards and two touchdowns.

Evans was back on the practice field on Monday.  The transfer from Gulfport High gained valuable experience and confidence after starting his second game of the season in the Moss Point win.

Williams said, "He's adapted really well to what we do.  He did a great job Friday night and the offensive line gave him a great chance to be successful in the backfield."

"Our O-line was a good help," stated Evans.  "Our defense was a good help in getting the ball back in clutch situations. That's helping me a lot, getting more reps in the varsity game. Really putting a lot of work back there."

Long Beach opens Region 4-5A play at Pascagoula Friday night. The Panthers defeated a highly talented George County Rebel football team 36 to 29.

Coach Williams said, "We're looking as we go down the stretch here with a seven game district schedule to really try to play our best ball and not give other teams the opportunity to beat us."

That means the Bearcats must avoid the turnover bug.

The Long Beach-Pascagoula game at War Memorial Stadium will be one of the featured games on the Friday Night Football Showdown on WLOX ABC-CBS.
