Goff Sentenced To Die For George County Murder

Joseph Goff will pay the ultimate penalty for killing his girlfriend.

Friday, a jury in George County sentenced Goff to death for the murder of Brandy Yates. Her family cried as the sentence was read.

Goff defended himself on the capital murder charge and a charge of arson. He was sentenced to ten years for the arson.

The crime Goff is convicted of committing happened in August of last year. That's when George County Deputies responded to a 911 call at the intersection of Highway 98 and Rocky Creek Road.

Goff was arrested just one day after deputies found the mutilated body of Brandy Yates inside a motel room at the Rocky Creek Inn.

Investigators say Goff killed Yates, then tried to destroy the evidence by starting a fire inside the motel.

Police arrested Goff after being stopped for a traffic violation in Warren County.
