D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - One man is dead and another is in custody after a late-night shooting at a D'Iberville apartment complex.
Police Chief Wayne Payne said Rondal Brent Butler, Jr., 36, died from a gunshot wound to the head, and Michael Pittman, 33, has been charged with manslaughter.
Payne said the shooting at the Timber Grove Apartments on Automall Pkwy. was first reported as an attempted suicide around 11:40 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Butler suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Merit Health Biloxi where he later died while being treated in the ICU.
Payne said Pittman was the person who reported the shooting as an attempted suicide, but evidence collected from the scene did not match up with his report.
Pittman's bond was set at $500,000, and Capt. Marty Griffin said he is being held at the Harrison County jail pending an initial court appearance.
Payne said the Harrison County Sheriff's Department and Harrison County District Attorney's Office assisted with the investigation.
