SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) -

Another section of the Mississippi Sound is unsafe for swimmers. Thursday the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued a water contact advisory for Biloxi East Central Beach near Porter Avenue from St. Peter Street east to Dukate Street.

Five other advisories issued earlier remain in effect. They are for Edgewater Beach near Eisenhower Drive in Biloxi from DeBuys Road east to Edgewater Avenue, East Courthouse Road Beach in Gulfport near Courthouse Road Pier from Courthouse Road east to Tegarden, Gulfport Central Beach from Alfonso Drive east to Arkansas Avenue, Pass Christian East Beach from Espy Avenue east to Hayden Avenue and Lakeshore Beach near Lakeshore Drive from the Silver Slipper Casino east to Pointset Avenue.

MDEQ warns if you swim in these parts of the Mississippi Sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.

MDEQ will lift these advisories when water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
