GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - We now know Gulfport investigators consider Tuesday night's shooting on Monterey Dr. "a murder," and they're actively chasing leads to find the person who may have pulled the trigger.
Moments ago, Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania shared his first thoughts about the shooting incident that killed Trevues Martin on the eve of his 21st birthday.
Since that late night shooting, Papania said his investigators have received "a lot of community support on it, and because of that, we're getting a lot of leads."
One of those tips had Papania send his SWAT team into Biloxi, thinking the person they wanted to question was there. That tip didn't lead to an arrest.
"We have a strong person of interest that we're following leads on right now," the chief said.
Investigators have their suspicions about why a gun got fired and Trevues Martin died. However, Papania won't elaborate on the motive likely linked to the Tuesday night shooting until an arrest is made.
