The Biloxi Shuckers ended the 2016 season by beating the home standing Mississippi Braves 4-1 at Trustmark Park in Pearl Monday afternoon.
Tyrone Taylor doubled to lead off the top of the second inning and scored on Clint Coulter's run-scoring single to right field.
With the game tied, the Shuckers grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Johnny Davis belted a triple and scored on a double off the bat of Angel Ortega.
Jacob Nottingham added an insurance run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly ball to right that plated Davis.
Jorge Lopez (2-4) closed out his short stay with the Shuckers on a winning note. He allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts in five innings.
Ortega drove home the final run in the top of the ninth on a single that brought home Javier Betancourt from second base.
Taylor Scott, Mitch Lambson and Angel Ventura all came out of the bullpen and shutdown the Braves.
Biloxi closed out the 2016 season with a 72-67 record, for third place in the Southern League South Division overall standings.
The Shuckers will have seven months before the 2017 season opens on April 16, with a five-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium.
Biloxi is slated to open the home slate of games at MGM Park on April 12, 2017 hosting the Pensacola blue Wahoos.
