Investigators Say Bus Driver's Error Started Chain Reaction Accident

There's new information about the bus and 18-wheeler accident in Jackson County.

Investigators with the Mississippi Highway Patrol have told WLOX News it was the driver of the Greyhound bus that hit the 18-wheeler and began a chain reaction crash on Interstate 10 Thursday morning.

The Highway Patrol says the driver of the Miami bound bus failed to yield while changing lanes on the bridge over the Escatawpa river.

The bus hit the back of the trailer, and the trailer jack-knifed, blocking both eastbound lanes. Moments later, two other vehicles slammed into the 18-wheeler.

The bus driver, 27 of the passengers and two people in a car were taken to area hospitals.

The bus driver remains in fair condition and most of the others have been released.

No charges have been filed at this time, but the Highway Patrol say the investigation continuing.
