ST. JAMES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

One St James Parish neighborhood is waking up to water this morning.

Longview Street is an area prone to flooding. Every home on the street is surrounded by sandbags Wednesday morning.

Thousands of sandbags were filled and distributed throughout the parish yesterday in anticipation of rising water from the Blind River.

So many of the residents here experienced flooding during Hurricane Isaac and now they may have to go through it again.

On Longview street, residents estimate the water rose about four inches overnight and it is expected to continue rising.

Now, parish leaders previously believed the area north of 3125 was of the biggest concern but one neighborhood south of 3125 is already taking on water Wednesday morning.

St. James Parish President Timmy Roussel, said nearly 300 homes are equipped with sandbags. He said some homes should see water touching sandbags around their homes by the end of the day.

Roussel said parish officials have not ordered an evacuation, but that could change later today.

"That's going to be their decision for now," Roussel said of individual choices about leaving the area.

Combined parish and volunteer efforts have filled nearly 80,000 bags with sand.

"Residents are anxious and scared," Roussel said. "We are doing everything possible to help them."

Roussel said some areas are seeing backwater flooding from the Blind River. The water has risen nearly six inches, he said.

Parish leaders are up early monitoring the situation as flooding has shut down a number of roadways.
