BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The woman and her dog who were pulled to safety as her vehicle was going underwater are now in a Baton Rouge shelter.

The woman says she had surgery less than two weeks ago and had been hospitalized. Not realizing the flooding was so serious, she says she was driving to a grocery store Saturday with her dog, Sassy, when she realized the water was too high.  She tried to turn around but could not, she says.

A boat approached the vehicle just as it began to go underwater. One of the men on that boat, David Phung, jumped into the water and pulled the woman from the water. The woman then let Phung know her dog was still underwater in the car. Seconds later, Phung went underwater and pulled the dog to safety.

WAFB-TV reporter Robbie Reynold, who was also on the boat, captured the amazing rescue on video.  The video had millions of views on Facebook, making it the most “engaging” Facebook post in the world both Saturday and Sunday, figures show.

State workers found the woman in a shelter Monday. The workers pulled up video of the rescue online and showed it to her for the first time.
