Vote To Come On Eight Flags

Will the Eight Flags display return to the foot of DeBuys and Highway 90?

The Sons of Confederate Veterans told the Harrison County Board of Supervisors at a meeting on Monday that they want to see the flags return.

The flags were taken down, and the flag poles removed in March 2000 after protestors removed the Confederate battle flag and the state flag bearing the confederate emblem. The beach display has sat empty since then.

A spokesman for the Sons of Confederate Veterans told the supervisors because Mississippi voters decided not to change the state flag last month, it's time to return it and the other seven flags to the display on the beach.

The supervisors chose not to make a decision today, but instead said they will take a vote at their meeting in early June.
