They are well-known businesses on the Biloxi Strip. Hunan's Restaurant sits on Highway 90. Behind it is Studio 90, and right next door is the new Players Club Pool Hall and Sports Bar.
This 10-acre property is where Ben Favret wants to build his three condominium buildings called "Venezia Resort."
"It's going to have a real Italian look to it. It's gone from a 3 star to a 5 star resort."
Favret didn't have to do much Tuesday to convince Biloxi council members to approve the project. They said he met all their concerns, including height, drainage and traffic.
"He satisfied all of these, and actually went a little bit further to alleviate any problems of concern, especially drainage," Council President Charles Harrison said.
The resort offers 339-units, featuring a park in the back, observation deck, covered parking garage, and a central garden.
"We'll have a lazy river. We'll also have a feature to it, a gym, workout facilities, a pedestrian mall almost that you can walk, plus jogging trails.".
Favret says the project is on a fast-track, and he expects to break ground as early as September.
"We think it certainly enhances the community. That area will be greatly enhanced."
Venezia Resort will be built in two phases and consist of one, two and three-bedroom condos. The units range in price from $280,000 to as high as $1 million.
Ben Favret's name may sound familiar. He also proposed building the Portofino condos on the Slippery Sam's site virtually next door. But so far, that project still hasn't been built.
