GULFPORT/BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Getting a ride home from the casino or a bar is now easier than ever, thanks to Uber.

The service is now available in the Gulfport-Biloxi area beginning July 1, thanks to a new state law that went into effect that allows the state to regulate ride-sharing services.

According to the website, drivers will be available along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, from Bay St. Louis to Pascagoula. Company officials say the service offers people a safe alternative to drinking and driving.

"Uber is excited to begin service in the Gulfport-Biloxi area, giving riders access to reliable transportation and offering flexible work opportunities for drivers," said spokeswoman Evangeline George.

Uber started operations along the coast at 4 p.m. on Friday, as well as in Hattiesburg and Oxford. The company is also offering a promotional discount to the first 400 riders in each city. Riders can use the code "UBERGPT16" for 17.76% off your ride to celebrate Fourth of July weekend.
