GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A volunteer with the Humane Society of South Mississippi has helped the shelter win a $10,000 dollar grant.
Hill's Pet Nutrition selected the center as a finalist in its Hill's Pet Nutrition Shelter Heroes Contest. The competition was to recognize the most dedicated pet care volunteers across the country.
Wendy Kennedy is one of five winners in the Hill's Shelter Heroes online voting contest.
"Wendy is the epitome of a shelter hero," said HSSM Development Manager, Maren Slay. "She works tirelessly to improve the lives of homeless pets in our community and does not rest until these animals find their forever homes."
A portion of the winnings will go toward Roxy's Fund, a volunteer-driven program headed by Kennedy that provides medical treatment for heart-worm positive dogs. The remaining funds will go toward general shelter operation.
