For the fourth time in five games, Montgomery defeated Biloxi. The Biscuits jumped all over Shuckers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff in the top of the first inning.
Montgomery plated 5 runs in the inning and never looked behind in posting a 9-2 victory before 2,439 fans at MGM Park.
Woodruff walked the first batter he face in Braxton Lee, the former Picayune High and Ole Miss standout. Mike Marjama followed with a double to right field placing Biscuits on second and third.
Willy Adames singled into right field that drove home Lee from third base with the games first run.
The Biscuits continued to turn up the heat. Jake Bauers ripped a three-run blast over the right field wall and Montgomery was cruising to a 4-0 advantage.
Casey Gillaspie followed with a double and raced down to third base on a wild pitch. Kean Wong hit a grounder to second base and Gillaspie scored the fifth run in the inning.
Woodruff (L, 2-5,5.68 ERA) pitched 5 2/3 innings. He gave up 7 runs on 8 hits with 7 strikeouts and 2 base on balls. He also gave up two home runs.
Yonny Chirinos (W, 1-0, 3.00 ERA) posted the win. In six innings the Shuckers got 2 runs on 5 hits. Chirinos had 5 strikeouts and gave up a home run to Biloxi center fielder Brett Phillips, his 11th home run this year, a two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth inning. Phillips now has 41 RBI.
Garrett Cooper hit his 20th double of the season
The Biscuits (38-37) banged out 14 hits on the night and were led by Willy Adames who had 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate and 3 RBI. Jake Bauers also belted 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 3 RBI.
The Shuckers (40-34) travel to Birmingham Wednesday night.
