OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - We got a glimpse back in time on Thursday night in Ocean Springs at Charter Bank.
During the Chamber of Commerce's "Main Street-Tourism Bureau Business After Hours" gathering, a time capsule was opened.
Employees and customers of the Master Grill buried the capsule in 2001. The restaurant once stood where the Charter Bank is today and closed in 2009.
Heather Eason worked at Master Grill for 18 years until the restaurant closed in 2009. Eason said 20 people contributed items to the time capsule. Items that were uncovered included a shirt signed by all the Master Grill employees, pay stubs and menus, along with letters.
One of the letters was written to a pair of teenagers who worked at the restaurant that had just started dating back in 2001. The letter to them said they would still be together years from now and probably have a few kids. In turns out that letter was right. Today the couple has been married for 13 years and they have three children.
"It brought back all kinds of memories for me just to see some of the items people had put in the capsule," said Eason. "For the customers who showed up it was very exciting and brought back lots of good memories."
The Master Grill opened in 1969 and was demolished in 2010 to make way for the Charter Bank.
