JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Crews are working to keep tabs on a wildfire burning near the Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge in Jackson County. It is unknown what sparked the blaze.
Sami Gray, fire management officer for the refuge, said the 10-acre fire is burning near the intersection of Antioch Rd. and Seaman Rd.
Gray said the blaze is 100 percent contained at this time, but structures and a gas pipeline were threatened by the flames earlier in the day. No structures were damaged, and the fire's progress was halted before it could reach the pipeline, according to Gray.
Crews with the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Central Fire Station are assisting. They will remain on the scene for at least the next couple of hours to make sure the flames do not grow and spread.
