SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (KCAL/KCBS/CNN) -  Four massive wildfires are burning in southern California. One is near the US-Mexico border. Another is in Santa Barbara County.

And on Monday, two fast-moving fires broke out in the Angeles National Forest.

Officials believe the Reservoir Fire, which started late Monday morning, was sparked by a vehicle running off the highway.

“The fire is burning in very, very steep terrain, with very, very heavy vegetation on the west side of San Gabriel Canyon,” said Fire Chief Robert Garcia of the Angeles National Forest.

What is being called the Fish Fire began a short while later.

All the fires have prompted road closures and mandatory evacuations.  Commander David Halm of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. said more evacuations could be necessary.

“Make sure they have their medications, important documents and any supplies they may need ready to go,” Halm said of those being evacuated. “Be prepared, as the fire department mentioned, in case we do have some more evacuations, that you’re ready to go, because this fire could change direction very quickly.”

Lt. Paul Dennis of the Azusa Police Dept. assured residents that extra officers will secure evacuated areas.

“We have numerous law enforcement personnel in the areas that have been designated as mandatory evacuation areas,” Dennis said. “We have sufficient personnel out there. That’s one of the last things that you need to worry about.”

The Reservoir Fire and the Fish Fire are expected to merge to become one massive fire at some time Tuesday.
