MGM Park: 2017 High School and College Baseball games announced

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - MGM Park has become a prime time location for baseball.  Besides serving as the home of the Biloxi Shuckers of the Southern League, MGM Park is providing local high school baseball teams and colleges an opportunity to perform in the stadium.

The spotlight will shine on the Mississippi Gulf Coast when MGM Park will serve as the site of the 2017 Conference USA Tournament May 24-28.

Officials project the C-USA Tournament will have a multi-million dollar economic impact on the Coast with 8 teams from across the nation competing for 5 days at MGM Park.  The winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals and the title game will be televised by CBS Sports.

Ole Miss fields one of the top college baseball programs in the nation and the Rebels will take a swing at Nicholls on May 14th.  Jackson State and Alcorn are slated to meet on May 17th.  In April (TBA), Southern Miss and Nicholls will meet and later in May (TBA) Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana clash.

In another big college game in May, Mississippi State is slated to play.  The opponent has not been finalized at this time.  Last year Mississippi State and UL-Monroe played 14 innings before a crowd of over 5,000 fans and they watched the Bulldogs win a 2-1 thriller.

Jackson State and Southern are also slated to play each other in May (TBA).

Rivals Biloxi and D'Iberville open the high school baseball schedule on March 3rd. The following day a junior college game will send Meridian against Jefferson Davis.

The "Battle at the Beach" is set for March 18th.  Four high school teams from South Mississippi will play four teams from Central and North Mississippi.  Biloxi, D'Iberville, Ocean Springs and Gulfport will represent the Coast.

More college games will be announced at a later date with Tulane and South Alabama to be featured.
