GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - An item left in a rental vehicle caused a bomb scare in Gulfport on Friday morning.
Sgt. Damon McDaniel, spokesman for the Gulfport Police Department, said a vehicle rented by the U.S. Coast Guard to a rental company at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, but the driver left something in the car.
""The rental company thought it was a bomb," said McDaniel.
That's when the Gulfport Police Department and airport were alerted.
"It was not a bomb. It turned out to be a training device made by the U.S. Coast Guard that they were using," McDaniel told WLOX News Now.
Officials with the Coast Guard came back to the rental property and took the device. McDaniel said there was never any real bomb threat.
