Shayna Steele grew up in Biloxi performing on community theater stages as a child. On Saturday, the accomplished singer is coming home for the performance of a lifetime at the Mary C in Ocean Springs.
Since moving to New York City, Shayna has performed on stages around the world; from leading roles Broadway to singing backup with the likes of Rihanna and Bette Midler. But Saturday night's performance is about coming home.
"This is the first time I've come back here to perform my original music since moving to New York. I'm bringing my band down here and I'm super excited," Steele.
A big part of that band is Shayna's husband, keyboard player David Cook; an accomplished musician in his own right. Cook says Shayna's homecoming performance is something they've been planning to do for a long time.
"We've played a lot of this music around the world. We just got back from a month in Europe and we're going back there for a few weeks," said Cook. "We've played all over the states but nothing in Biloxi or the coast yet and I know this is really special her and to me too; and we're going to have fun."
David is currently musical director and keyboard player for 10-time Grammy award winner, Taylor Swift. Both he and Shayna have illustrious musical careers.
"Expect a lot of energy, a stellar band, a group of guys who have played for top artists around the world. My music is very jazz influenced, blues and soul," said David.
Don't miss Shayna's special homecoming performance Saturday, June 17th at 7:30 p-m at the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center of Arts in Ocean Springs. Tickets are $20.
