OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The Ocean Springs School Board has decided not to vote on a proposal to replace its registered nurses with licensed practical nurses. The proposal was tabled at a board meeting Tuesday night, but school district leaders say the issue could come up again at the next school board meeting later this month.
Ocean Springs schools have been dealing with budget cuts this year that have forced them to rethink who will provide medical care at each of the six schools.
Superintendent Dr. Bonita Coleman-Potter told us last month that her district is expected to lose as much as $2 million in MAEP funding next year. This proposed change would save the school about $136,000.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for June 27.
