Biloxi Lady Indians new basketball coach resigns

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi High School athletic director Tom Gladney says he was shocked when coach Blake Jones resigned Tuesday morning.

"We thought we had gone through the process and hired the best possible candidate, "stated Gladney.

In eight seasons Jones had guided Olive Branch to a 111-40 record and was a consistent playoff contender.  However, Gladney says Jones told him he has decided to get out of coaching and go back into the business world.  He was a financial advisor for five years out of college before he started his coaching career.

Gladney said Biloxi will advertise the position again and will hire the best possible candidate to lead the Lady Indians basketball program into the future.

Hancock High School is also in the process of hiring a new girls basketball coach after Pam Slayton decided to step down.  Slayton spent 16 years at Hancock and led the Lady Hawks to the 2004 Class 5A State Championship.

Slayton, a native of Slidell, Louisiana, is heading back home to coach the girls basketball team at her alma mater Slidell High School.
