JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Deputies at the Jackson County Sheriff's Department are getting a pay raise. County supervisors approved new hourly pay for 19 full-time deputies and 11 part-time deputies on June 6.
"This new rate is comparable to other law enforcement agencies in the region," Sheriff Mike Ezell said. "We feel it will improve retention/hiring to maintain and obtain qualified, educated and experienced law enforcement officers with the department."
$116,000 will be moved from the fuel budget to the personal services budget to pay for the raises. The department is also getting rid of more than 60 police cars, reducing gas and implementing more selective hiring.
The Jackson County School District also gave a $120,000 reimbursement for school resource officers that will go toward the raises.
