The Biloxi Shuckers went for the series win over the Biscuits at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. It didn't happen.
The Biscuits threatened in the bottom of the first inning. Shuckers' starter Javi Salas issued two walks, a single, a wild pitch, but the right-hander didn't allow a run to score. The ball bounced Biloxi's way when Salas unleashed a wild pitch that bounced back to catcher Rene Garcia. Kean Wong was tagged out at home plate while trying to score from third base.
Salas walked three consecutive batters with one out in the bottom of the second. Biloxi manager Mike Guerrero decided to relieve Salas and sent Brook Hall out of the bullpen. Hall struck out Tommy Coyle and forced a ground out to get out of the jam.
The Biscuits (29-29) finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mike Marjama belted a triple and former Picayune High School standout Braxton Lee hit a sacrifice fly to drive home Marjama giving Montgomery a 1-0 lead.
The Biscuits would crack open the game in the fifth and plated four runs and led 5-0. The big hit in the fifth inning was a three-run home run off the bat of Patrick Leonard.
Biloxi (32-25) scored a run in the top of the seventh. Garrett Cooper hit an RBI single to center field that drove home Jacob Nottingham who had walked to lead off the inning. Cooper went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
Nottingham extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the ninth and later scored on a Cooper double.
Hunter Wood (2-0) posted his second win of the season. He allowed just two hits with four strikeouts on 99 pitches in six innings.
The Shuckers take aim on the series win 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Riverfront Stadium. RHP Jorge Ortega (0-5, 3.86 ERA) will get the starting call on the mound for Biloxi. He's looking to post his first win this season. The Biscuits have tabbed RHP Jake Faria (1-5, 4.62 ERA) to face the Shuckers on Wednesday.
