Gulfport City Council approves long-term lease for casino project

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The City of Gulfport has taken the next step toward bringing another casino development to the area. Tuesday, the Gulfport City Council approved a long-term lease that will bring a casino to the harbor.

Developer Robert Lubin wants to build a casino at the harbor. In January, Lubin presented a plan to city leaders that would resurrect the stalled casino site and revitalize the old Markham Building just across Hwy. 90.

Now, Lubin says his investments in Gulfport won't stop there. He will also invest in the Gulfport Aquarium project.

The casino project is worth an estimated $140 million and will include a casino, hotel, parking garage and performance theater.

We will have more on this story later tonight on WLOX News Now and WLOX.com.
