Josh Hader pitched six solid innings Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery and helped lead the Biloxi Shuckers past the home standing Biscuits 4-2. Hader allowed one run on four hits and tied a season high with eight strikeouts. The 22-year-old Shuckers ace has not allowed more than one earned run in any of his 11 starts and is the Southern League leader with a 0.95 earned run average.
Shuckers center fielder Brett Phillips had 1 hit in 5 trips to the plate, but it was a triple to lead off the game in the top of the first. Nathan Orf was able to drive home Phillips from third base with a ground out to second base.
Top of the third inning Jacob Nottingham extended his hitting streak to five games with an RBI double to the gap in right center field. Rene Garcia raced home to give Biloxi a 2-0 advantage. The 21-year-old Nottingham has hit safely in 27 of his last 31 games and has reached safely in a team-high 15 consecutive games.
Nick Shaw belted the ball to Wong at second base, the ball went through the second baseman's glove and Nick Ramirez scored from third base. Javier Betancourt followed with a single into right field that plated Tyrone Taylor.
Tyler Spurlin pitched a perfect seventh inning before Stephen Kohlscheen gave up a run in the eighth inning. Kohlscheen got out of the jam with a double play.
Biloxi (32-24) takes aim on the series win Tuesday night in game three of the five-game series in Montgomery. Right handed pitcher Javi Salas (3-2m 4.17 ERA) will get the call on the mound for the Shuckers, while right hander Jacke Faria (1-5, 4.62 ERA) will start for the Biscuits (28-29).
The Shuckers next home game at MGM Park is set for 7:10 p.m. Friday hosting the Birmingham Barons.
