Pass Christian schools proposing $10 million in improvement projects

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - New construction projects are in the works for Pass Christian schools.

School Board President Margaret Jean Kalif says a public hearing is scheduled for June. The board of trustees will take input on a proposed no-tax increase bond roll over to allow $10 million in improvements.

Projects include a new gym at the middle and elementary school, where they're currently sharing a facility with the Boys and Girls Club. Kalif says a new entrance at the high school is needed for more effective security.

New alternative school classrooms would replace trailers which are now being used. The high school band hall would be expanded.

Additionally, improved parking, concessions and bathrooms are planned at the football stadium.

"People are moving into Pass Christian and we're beginning to feel those growing pains," said Kalif. "So we are trying to work with the city to grow our athletic programs and our band programs while at the same time making sure that our schools enjoy the comfort of of ultimate safety."

For construction to move forward, the bond issue has to be put on the August ballot, where it would then need 60 percent approval from voters.

The public hearing is scheduled for June 14 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Kalif said renderings of the proposed projects will be presented during the meeting.
