WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

Hancock County moviegoers can now take in the latest releases without leaving their hometown.

The Beacon Theater in Waveland has acquired its first digital movie projector.

The owner said the upgrade will allow the theater to show Hollywood's latest releases.

On Friday, the new projectors will debut the latest sequel of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and the feature "Angry Birds".

The theater owner said the new projectors are a big win for Hancock County residents.

"They'll be able to stay here locally, save the travel time and the expense of going to Gulfport or Slidell, and they'll be able to get the latest releases here in Waveland, Mississippi," said owner Charles Watzke. "It's the only theater actually in Hancock County so they won't have to leave our county."

The digital projectors replace the older projectors that used film.
