MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - The high-tech Northrop Grumman unmanned systems facility in Moss Point facility celebrated a milestone of achievement Thursday.
It was a celebration of a decade of turning fuselages into unmanned aerial vehicles with some of the most advanced technology in the whole world.
Local and state leaders met with employees and other dignitaries to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the facility.
"Whatever we can do, and have been able to do, to enhance what goes on here. The partnership is second to none," said Moss Point Mayor Billy Broomfield.
Broomfield presented facility director Mike Jones with a plaque celebrating the anniversary. Jones says the celebration was a testament to a great partnership with the city and a solid workforce.
"Collectively, it's been one team moving in one direction," said Jones. "We've been very successful."
The facility has been successful in helping create unmanned aerial vehicles such as autonomous helicopters and planes for the United States military, and even allies.
"This is the advanced manufacturing that we are encouraging throughout the state, and this is some of the best example of it that we have," said Gov. Phil Bryant.
A contract has been signed to keep the facility operating for another eight years. Gov. Bryant and others at the celebration hope the relationship lasts even longer.
