GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - There is now only one swimming warning in place for a section of the Mississippi Sound. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality's water contact advisory for Gulfport Central Beach from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave. remains in effect.
But Thursday afternoon MDEQ lifted the advisory for Gulfport East Beach from Tegarden Rd. east to Anniston Ave.
MDEQ warns if you swim in the section of the Mississippi Sound still under a water contact advisory, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.
MDEQ will lift the advisory for Gulfport Central Beach waters when samples show that bacteria levels are safe for human contact again.
