Gulf Islands National Seashore honored with Forever Stamp

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Park lovers can celebrate Gulf Islands National Seashore with a stamp dedicated to the park.

It's one of 16 stamps the United States Postal Service is unveiling to celebrate the National Park Service. The National Parks Forever Stamps are part of the service's 100th anniversary celebration.

The stamps will debut Thursday in New York City at the world's largest stamp show that only takes place in the U.S. once a decade.

Gulf Islands National Seashore joins 15 other parks for the honor, including Acadia National Park, Arches National Park, Everglades National Park, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Grand Canyon National Park, Haleakala National Park, Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park, Mount Rainier National Park, San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Yellowstone National Park.

More than a dozen special dedication ceremonies will be held Thursday at or near other parks depicted on the stamps.
